Bring the light back through the color.
A glowing landscape needs dark passages around its light. I’ll show you how to cover the bright first layers with a dark wash, then lift paint away to reveal the color underneath.
Those first marks become part of the finished painting. Later, dry brushing and transparent oil color add depth while keeping the raised texture visible.

This class is intended for intermediate-to-advanced artists who are comfortable using a reference image and have some experience with acrylics or oils. The demonstration combines both mediums, beginning with acrylic texture and finishing with oil color.

Let your first layers shine through.
I’ll start with an idea board and palette-knife texture, then build the acrylic foundation. Watch how I lift color through the dark wash and catch the texture with a dry brush.

Is this the right class for my experience?
The published class guidance is intermediate-to-advanced. You should have a foundation in drawing and painting, be comfortable using a reference image and have some experience with acrylics or oils.
Will I use acrylics or oils?
The demonstration uses acrylics for the textured foundation and oils for the later color layers. Gather materials for that sequence if you want to follow the demonstrated process.
How much time should I set aside?
The two recordings run 34 minutes 37 seconds and 26 minutes 53 seconds, totaling 1 hour 1 minute 30 seconds. Your painting time will be longer. Pause, replay and allow time for your own layers between sessions.
How long can I access the class?
The published offer includes lifetime on-demand access. You can return to a technique as you paint.
What materials should I gather?
Use a 24 × 30-inch canvas or smaller, acrylic paints, heavy gel, retarder, palette knives, brushes and a rubber-tip subtraction tool. The oil stage uses oil colors, Galkyd Lite, solvent and cold wax. Have water and rags ready; metallic acrylics are optional. Materials are not included in the class price.
