Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring? Whatever you need that can be packed in a medium sized suitcase with wheels.  Include clothing, personal items, prescriptions, small purse inside a larger purse or backpack, credit card, some cash, camera and PASSPORT.  Pack LIGHT.

What should I wear?  Casual resort type clothing.  Greeks DO NOT change clothes every day.  It is acceptable to mix and match clothing and wear them several days.  There are no laundry facilities available, so washing items in the sink can get tiresome and drying times are different due to the humidity.

What clothing should I pack?  Capris, shorts, swimwear, sleepwear, sandals, a dress or skirt, comfortable walking shoes, a light sweater or jacket.  Layer clothing. Hat, scarves and belts are good accessories to bring. Leave expensive jewelry at home.  Sandals that can get wet.

What else should I pack?  Pack your own toiletries in small bottles.  Remember your sunscreen, lip balm, medications and vitamins, diarrhea medicine, and pain reliever.  Also, hand sanitizer or antibacterial wipes are useful.  Sleep aid or sleeping pills.  Ear plugs (unfamiliar sounds can sometimes disrupt sleep.)  Antibiotic (prescribed by your doctor, in case of illness.)

What size suitcase should I bring?  A Medium sized suitcase NOT a big suitcase. MUST be less than 50 pounds.  Pack LIGHT, you will need space for souvenirs, clothes, oil, wine, etc.  LESS is BEST!

Will someone help me with my luggage?  NO, what you pack, you must be able to carry - through airports, up and down paths and, sometimes, stairs.

How much money should I take?  Whatever you will need for snacks, drinks, and souvenirs - approximately $10-15 per day.  Greece is on the Euro.  The exchange rate varies, but currently it is $1 = 75 cents in Euros. We will give you more information on the exchange rate as the departure date approaches.

What do I do if I unexpectedly have to cancel the trip?  Contact Milan Fine Art immediately.  You will be given airline/travel insurance information, which you must follow through.  Trips can only be cancelled for medical reasons, emergencies, etc. and documentation must be provided to the travel insurance to process a refund.  The $200 initial deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE.

What’s the food like?  Greek food is very wholesome and fresh.  There is usually a protein, many vegetables and starches available.  ALL meals are Family Style.  Milan Fine Art orders a great variety of food, we then sit down and are served family style - with platters of food passed around.  Meals typically take about 2 hours, with much visiting, sharing, talking and enjoying the food and drink.

Will I be able to buy snacks, water, etc.?  Yes, there are usually markets nearby.

What if I get sick?  There are clinics available in even the smallest towns.  The doctors and nurses speak Greek and some English.  Our guides will assist you, but the cost of care is your responsibility and is paid up front and you must bill your own insurance when you get home.

What if I get jet lag?  Everyone experiences “jet lag” to a certain extent. We recommend that you take a sleep aid or sleeping pills on the long plane ride and for the first couple of nights while your internal clock adjusts to the new time zone.

What if I want a beer or a glass of wine?  That is acceptable.  Greeks enjoy a glass of wine or beer at most meals. Drinking is usually contained to one or two glasses with a meal.  Europeans tend to have a more casual attitude toward alcohol and far less abuse.  This tour is NOT a “party” tour and we will not have excessive drinking and drunkenness, for liability reasons and for the consideration and enjoyment of other travelers.

Is there free-time?-Yes, there will be free time every day, where you can go out on your own, or stay back and relax.

What will the art workshops be like on this trip? We will integrate art into all aspects of the trip. We will create many pieces of artwork as plein air water color studies. Everyone will paint in watercolor with their watercolor travel kit. We will teach water color sketching techniques and drawing, and photography for future projects. There will be many opportunities for sharing artwork and helpful and encouraging critiques. Art journaling will be the method of art instruction for this trip and the essence of turning an experience into a future masterpiece!

Do I have to bring my own supplies? No, we will provide all the supplies you will need, however favorite set of pens or pencils is encouraged.

What are the accommodations like? Accommodations are very nice and typically are bed and breakfast type places with very nice views from patios or balconies. The rooms will be for 2 to 4 persons. If it is a 3 or 4 person accommodations, it will be a small villa or apartment with kitchens and sitting area.

Can I pay a little extra to have my own room? Yes, we can make arrangements for you to have your own room for an extra fee we will specify in advance.

TRAVEL TIPS - GUIDELINES - CODE OF CONDUCT

This document outlines the Travel Tips and Guidelines and Code of Conduct for all persons participating in the Milan Art Trip to Greece. Please review this document and the Tips & Guidelines on the website in its entirety, sign where indicated and submit to Milan Fine Art with your application.

As a participant in the Milan Art Trip to Greece, I agree to the following Code of Conduct while on this trip:

1. Be Considerate. While on an Art trip with the Milan’s, you will be working with others as a group and will be seen by others as representatives of Milan Fine Art. Please always be considerate of how your actions or contributions affects our group and Milan Fine Art.

2. Be Respectful. Treat all individuals with a sense of dignity, respect, and worth. Make a personal commitment to be nonjudgmental about cultural differences, living conditions and the life style of each person you encounter.  Avoid profane and abusive language and disruptive behavior that is dangerous to yourself and others.  All items of clothing must be suitable for the work environment and should not contain offensive or objectionable material. If you use tobacco, please be respectful of those around you and avoid smoking on the bus/van.

3. Be Cooperative. If there is a problem or some issue that needs to be addressed, we request that you speak to Elli or John, rather than with the hotel staff, our driver, or fellow travelers. We will aim to correct or resolve any problem that may arise. It is important to express these feelings and find solutions rather than holding on to them and hoping they go away. Commit to be a problem solver.

4. Be Available. Each day of the the Milan Fine Art - Greece Tour is carefully planned out in accordance with the activities scheduled and the number of people on the trip; therefore, it is important for the entire group that you are on time.

5. Be Flexible. Be ready to adapt to Greek mealtimes and sleep times. Be respectful of “siesta or quiet time.” We will do our best to follow the schedule but sometimes things happen, so be flexible.

6. Be Safe. We are traveling into a foreign country and it is imperative that you always pay attention to the instructions of the group leaders. While unsafe conditions are not anticipated, be sure to always be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to safeguard your personal items. Do not go off on your own. It is important that Milan Fine Art group members always know where each participant is. There will be plenty of time for relaxing, shopping, and enjoying the country. Finally, do not use, possess, or be under the influence of illegal substances/drugs at any time during the trip.

7. Be Sober :) Although we plan to partake of the wine of Greece, this tour is not a “party” tour and we will not tolerate excessive drinking or drunkenness for liability reasons and for the consideration and enjoyment of other travelers. Important fact: The alcohol content in all drinks, even beer and wine, is higher in Greece than in the United States.

TRAVEL AND PACKING TIPS FOR GREECE

Pack wisely. Pack light. Leave lots of room for souvenirs - like clothing, wine, oil, jewelry, etc.

Don’t pack more than you can comfortably carry yourself. Airlines and hotels in Greece don’t usually have bellhops or baggage carriers. What you pack is what you carry!

Greeks don’t change clothing everyday like American’s do. They do not have laundry facilities like we have. It is perfectly OK to wear the same outfit for two or three days. Greeks accessorize their clothing with different scarves and belts to freshen their look each day. The following are suggestions to keep your suitcase light and your packing easy.

Clothing - The acceptable clothing is “resort casual” - capris, shorts, swimwear, sleepwear, underwear, sandals & flip flops. Bring a nice outfit like a dress or skirt in case we go out or visit a museum or church. Pack walking shoes; as we may be climbing around ruins while taking pictures of castles and cliffs. A light sweater or jacket is a must because it cools down in the evenings, especially near the coast. Layer short sleeved shirts over tank tops. A hat, scarves, and belts are good accessories to bring. Leave your expensive jewelry at home. Remember to pack a painting shirt.

Toiletries - Whatever you usually use. Wash cloths are not provided in hotels in Greece (towels are). So, either bring your own wash cloth or bring disposable face wash/makeup remover wipes. Remember to pack sunscreen, lip balm, medications, vitamins, diarrhea medicine, pain reliever. Also, it may be wise to bring an antibiotic (prescribed by your doctor, in case of illness.) Hand sanitizer & antibacterial wipes are helpful items. Sleep aid or sleeping pills (recommended for the long plane ride and the first night or two to adjust your internal clock to the new time zone.) Think small travel size containers. Packing vitamins and such in little plastic bags, lightens your load.

Pack light. Pack wisely. Pack only what you can carry by yourself. No bellboys or luggage carriers provided in Greece!

Travel aids - pleasure reading, snacks, ear plugs, travel pillow/blanket, motion-sickness remedy.

Travel info - Passport, Driver’s license, travel confirmation.

Documents - Copy of passport, travel documents, emergency contacts, medical !insurance card, and list of medications.

Funds - Wallet, cash, 1-2 credit cards, ATM card.

Technology - cellphone, camera, iPad/iPod & chargers, headphones, international converters & plug adapters, small flashlight/extra batteries.
