You're scrolling through your Instagram feed and see an artist you've been following. She just posted her latest work, and you notice how powerful it is and how much her skills have improved lately.
Then you scroll down and see another artist splash the word "SOLD" across her painting, alongside a sweet post about the painting finding its "forever home."
Next, you see another artist, who started her career a few years after you, now promoting her first gallery show. The post features a video of her new gallery with beautiful lights and pristine white walls, and your heart aches with envy.
You don't want to feel this way. You want to be happy for all of these artists, but you can't chase away that familiar feeling of jealousy.
Why does it seem like everyone is finding success except for you? Why can't you catch a break? How come when everyone else is enjoying art shows, sales, and new inspiration in a gorgeous, large studio, you haven't sold a painting in months, are still painting in your living room, feel creatively stuck, and instead of buying art supplies, you had to buy a new set of tires? It just doesn't seem fair!
How do you get out of this funk? Jealousy, envy, and coveting are some of the most destructive forces that can harm an artist's ability to succeed and create freely. Jealousy is like mold in the raspberries or kerosene in the ice cream.
The only way to get your joy back and truly be free is to rid yourself of that black cloud. Otherwise, it will poison everything you do and block your ability to produce and receive blessings. Sales will be impossible, and you will sink deeper into that dark pit, making it even harder to climb out.
The first thing you need to do is identify the culprit and realize it is not you. You are not a dark, hateful, or jealous person. You are NOT jealous! You are a joyful, grateful artist who is genuinely thankful for others' success.
Then, you agreed with the idea that something isn't fair. You don't have as much as someone else; you weren't given the same opportunities.
To break free from the grip of jealousy, you must actively resist its lure. Remind yourself that jealousy only blocks the flow of your own blessings and stifles your creativity. The moment you decide not to be jealous, to reject those insidious whispers of resistance, you open up a channel for your own successes to flow freely.
Remember, abundance is not limited, and someone else's success does not mean less opportunity for you.
Each time you celebrate another artist's victories, you reaffirm your belief in abundance. By cultivating gratitude and focusing on your unique journey, you shield yourself from the negative impacts of envy.
Embrace your path with confidence and a generous heart. Trust that what you need will come to you at the right time. This shift in perspective is transformative—it turns your attention away from what you lack and towards the endless possibilities before you.
Continue to work diligently, let go of comparisons, and watch your world expand in ways you never imagined possible.
