Expressive Pallet Knife Abstract

Discover the energy and movement of abstract painting in Expressive Palette Knife Abstract, a hands-on class focused on creating bold, dynamic artwork through texture and gesture. In this class, instructor John Milan will guide students through the process of building an expressive abstract composition using acrylic paint, modeling paste, and a palette knife.

Participants will explore techniques for layering materials, carving and shaping texture, and applying paint in a loose, intuitive way. By working with thick applications of modeling paste and acrylics, students will learn how to create depth, contrast, and captivating surface effects that bring their paintings to life.

This class emphasizes experimentation and personal expression, encouraging artists of all levels to embrace spontaneity while developing a strong sense of composition and movement. By the end of the session, students will complete a richly textured abstract painting and gain practical techniques they can continue using in their own work.
