About This Class

Build a powerful foundation in color through this immersive oil painting class focused on mastering the primary palette. In this class, students will create a colorful painting in oils, learning how to mix nuanced, harmonious color variations from a limited selection of primary hues.

Through guided exercises and hands-on application, you’ll explore two different types of primary color palettes and discover how each influences temperature, saturation, and mood within a painting. This deep dive into intentional color mixing will strengthen your understanding of value, chroma, and balance—giving you the tools to confidently create clean, vibrant mixtures without muddiness.

By the end of the class, you’ll walk away with a finished monochromatic oil painting and a solid, transferable understanding of color theory that can be applied to any subject matter, style, or painting process.

Instructor

Stephanie Linden

Stephanie comes from a family of artists and artisans, with art remaining a lifelong passion. After a full career as a physician, she felt compelled to pursue her artistic dreams and, following a long hiatus, began showing her work again in 2019. A graduate of the Mastery Program, she now enjoys life as a professional artist and Artist Mentor at MAI, known for her gift with color, light, and the sensitivity she brings to her subjects. Through dreamlike imagery, she reveals the realms of possibility.
