Architectural Abstract

Discover how structure and creativity come together in Architectural Abstract, an engaging class led by instructor John Milan. In this course, students will explore how architectural elements—such as buildings, structural forms, and geometric shapes—can be transformed into compelling abstract compositions.

Through guided instruction and creative exploration, participants will learn how the fundamental elements of art work together to build a strong and visually balanced painting. Topics will include line, value, composition, color, scale, and depth, and how these principles can be used to simplify and reinterpret architectural forms into expressive abstract designs.

Students will experiment with ways to break down recognizable structures into shapes and patterns while maintaining a sense of space and structure within the composition. The class encourages both thoughtful design and creative freedom, helping artists develop a unique approach to blending realism with abstraction.

By the end of the class, students will complete an architectural-inspired abstract painting and gain a deeper understanding of how core artistic principles can strengthen any work of art.
